THE VERDICT IS IN on back-related, on-the-job injuries. The jury is standing straight and tall and pain-free and voting 'YES' for chiropractic care.

Extensive research and many statistical studies have been done recently to find out how to hold down the cost of healthcare. Healthcare is in such crisis that all angles are being investigated. Because of world-wide research, some very surprising, very important information has come to light. This includes the fact that chiropractic care is superior care for back-related and other musculoskeletel injuries received on-the-job.

One major study examined the cases of 10,652 Florida workers with back-related injuries. Investigators compared chiropractic care to standard medical care for the same diagnosed problems. The conclusions were definite. Chiropractic patient-workers got off temporary disability in less than half the time, at less than half the cost. Only 20% of chiropractic patient-workers were hospitalized compared to 52.2% of the medical patient-workers.

A study funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health determined that chiropractic is not only cost-effective, but more importantly, it is the best way to relieve the injured worker of low-back pain and keep him off disability. The workers receiving chiropractic care indicated a much higher satisfaction rating of the care they received.

These are just two of many studies done that conclude that chiropractic care for work-related back injuries is extremely effective. Studies also point to chiropractic care as effective for other musculoskeletal disorders like carpal tunnel syndrome and neck pain. Chiropractic gets patients off disability more quickly, at less cost, with fewer days of work missed. Fewer workers miss work, fewer are hospitalized and more are satisfied with the outcome of their care.

A remarkable study at the University of Saskatchewan involved 283 patients who did not respond to any previous treatment, including "operative treatment" (this means surgery, folks!) Eighty-one percent of the patients, who had been classified totally disabled, went back to work with NO RESTRICTIONS after a series of daily chiropractic adjustments.

Chiropractic care works because it goes to the CAUSE of the pain, a vertebral subluxation. This means that one or more of the bones of the spine are misaligned and locked out of normal position causing nerves to be squeezed between two bones. The nerves can't transmit the controlling information from the brain to the body and the result is malfunction, lack of movement, pain and disability. This is wonderful news for injured workers.
